Dear Valued Client:

Your privacy is important to us and maintaining your trust and confidence is one of our highest priorities. We respect your right to keep your personal information confidential and understand your desire to avoid unwanted solicitations. A recent law change requires us (along with banks, brokerage houses and other financial institutions), to disclose our Privacy Policy to you – which we are more than happy to do. We hope that by taking a few moments to read it, you will have a better understanding of what we do with the information you provide us and how we keep it private and secure.

A. Types of Information We Collect

We collect certain personal information about you but only when that information is provided by you or is obtained by us with your authorization. We use that information to underwrite your insurance program.

Examples of sources from which we collect information include:

• Meetings and phone calls with you
• Letters, e-mails or facsimile transmissions from you
• Financial history questions relevant to your insurance needs

B. Parties To Whom We Disclose Information


As a general rule, we do not disclose personal information about our clients or former clients to anyone. However, to the extent permitted by law and any applicable State Code of Professional Conduct, certain nonpublic information about you may be disclosed in the following situations:

1. To comply with a validly issued and enforceable subpoena or summons.

2. In the course of a review of our firm’s practices under the authorization of The State of Massachusetts Department of Insurance or any other state insurance licensing commission or as necessary to properly respond to an inquiry or complaint from such a licensing board or organization.

3. In conjunction with a prospective purchase, sale, or merger of all or part of our business, provided that we take appropriate precautions (for example, through a written confidentiality agreement), so the prospective purchaser or merger partner does not disclose information obtained in the course of the review.

4. As part of any actual or threatened legal proceedings or alternative dispute resolution proceedings either initiated by or against us, provided we disclose only the information necessary to file, pursue, or defend against the lawsuit and take reasonable precautions to ensure that the information disclosed does not become a matter of public record.

5. To provide information to affiliates of the firm and non-affiliated third parties who perform services or functions for us in conjunction with our services to you, but only if we have a contractual agreement with the other party which prohibits them from disclosing or using the information other than for the purposes for which it was disclosed. (Examples of such disclosures include using an outside service bureau to process automation service or engaging a records retention agency to store prior year records.)

C. Confidentiality and Security of Non-Public Personal Information

Except as otherwise described in this notice, we restrict access to nonpublic personal information about you to employees of our firm and other parties who must use that information to provide services to you. Their right to further disclose and use the information is limited by the policies for our firm, applicable law, our Code of Professional Conduct and nondisclosure agreements where appropriate. We also maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards in compliance with applicable laws and regulations to guard your personal information from unauthorized access, alteration or premature destruction.

John Hackett, Jr. leads J.J. Ruddy Insurance as President, overseeing commercial lines with the same commitment to advocacy that has defined the agency for over 115 years. A Saint Anselm College graduate with his Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation, John excels at identifying gaps in coverage and solving complex insurance challenges.

His analytical approach has made meaningful differences for countless clients across all types of industries.  From small businesses to real estate developers and municipalities, John finds the holes in insurance programs and develops comprehensive solutions that address all kinds of loss exposure. He has guided businesses through complex risk analysis and contractual requirements—exemplifying his belief that “advocacy is a crucial part of the trusted partner relationship.”

John constantly updates his industry knowledge through ongoing education and close relationships with carriers, enabling proactive risk management strategies that prevent losses before they occur. His leadership extends beyond J.J. Ruddy having served on the Agency Advisory Council for Travelers Insurance and many other carrier leadership groups.

Following his family’s tradition of community involvement, John has been an active Rotary member for over 30 years as Past President and Paul Harris Fellow while also serving on the Hallmark Health Risk Management Committee and coaching youth sports in Andover. When not advocating for clients, John enjoys skiing, golfing, and time with his wife Amy and their two children.

Edward P. Hackett, CRM, CPRM, CIC, CISR

As Vice President of J.J. Ruddy Insurance, Ed overseas Personal Lines and agency operations with a focus on building trusted client relationships. His degrees from Providence College and Bentley University, combined with is professional designations like CRM, CPRM, CIC and CISR bring a unique perspective to service standards, risk management, and client advocacy.

Ed’s approach to insurance combines risk management, analytics, and practical solutions personalized to each individual client relationship. He regularly identifies coverage gaps, develops strategies for complex client needs, and negotiates effectively with carriers to deliver comprehensive insurance plans. His commitment to ongoing education through multiple professional designations ensures clients receive current, relevant advice addressing both traditional and emerging risks.

Inspired by his father’s example, Ed is committed to giving back to the community—coaching Reading Youth Hockey for 15 years, serving on the Hallmark Health Audit and Compliance Committee, and holding multiple roles with Medford Rotary. His Paul Harris Fellow recognition honors his deep commitment to the communities J.J. Ruddy has served since 1909.

Ed carries forward the agency’s legacy with a clear sense of purpose: “We stand on the shoulders of the generations before us. That might seem like a lot of pressure, but really, it’s an opportunity to be part of something special.” Outside of work, Ed enjoys time with his wife, Kathy, trying to keep up with their four children and he is always looking for the next home improvement project.
